‘CHARIOTS OF FIRE’ INSPIRES OUR NEW KNIT COLLECTION

Our 2016 collection brings a significant new model for Boxer Union, the knit short. Many of our members and followers have reached us from our begining in order to provide a relaxed fitting they can use for practising sports.

1981british film ‘Chariots of Fire’ inspires this new range. Three knit styles are named Eric, Harold and Andrew, main characters of this acclaimed Oscar-winning movie. Based on a true story, it presents two different men who compete as runners in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson), a devout Christian Scotsman, runs for the glory of God. Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross) is a Jewish Englishman who wants desperately to be accepted and prove to the world that Jews are not inferior. The two athletes are accepted to represent Great Britain in Olympics Games. Also accepted are Abrahams’ Cambridge friends as Lord Andrew (Nigel Havers).

The film is also notable for its memorable instrumental theme by Vangelis. The opening beach run, soundtracked with that anachronistic yet curiously fitting electronic score, has become iconic.
