BEEN QUIET, SHOUT LOUDER!
We´ve been silence for some time for shouting even louder. Today Boxer Union new collection is released with new product categories and styles!
Many of you have written us in the last year because you wanted Boxer Union to go further, so we spent the summer thinking about the next future of the brand. We decided to incorporate socks and undershirts to our product range sharing the same values of masculine timeless elegance.
After selecting top manufacturers in Portugal and Spain we started the design and development process of the new collection that today you can see in our website and authorized dealers.
In order to achive the mission of defending the boxer short and reaching as many men as possible, Boxer Union has set up the Propaganda Department. Although it was part of our communication from the beginning, now it comes to our collection too. We have launched our first printed t-shirts that will take our message to the streets.
PAUL GIAMATTI IS BARNEY
The Canadian novelist Mordecai Richler wrote a series of hilarious, partly autobiographical novels about Montreal’s Jewish community, some of which he adapted for the cinema. ‘Barney’s Version’ (2010) tells the vicissitudes of an ordinary man’s life: not particularly talented or good looking or very rich.
Paul Giamatti plays Barney Panofsky, a Montreal entrepreneur who starts out in the 1970s supporting his bohemian friends in Rome as a dealer in olive oil before returning home to work as a Jewish fundraiser and the producer of a popular but terrible TV series through his company Totally Unnecessary Productions (amazing name for your company…).
Barney was married three times, once to a young woman who killed herself, the second time because a rich woman loved him, and on his wedding day he met the love of his life and pursued her until they were married. Two children and a wonderful life and then it falls apart. Barney never recovers, and as he ponders his life in flashbacks, we come to understand where he has been but not where he is going.
Paul Giamatti is one of our favorite actors of last two decades. We discovered him in ‘American Splendor’ (2003), where he also wears boxer shorts. He has picked roles of men who are not particularly distinguished but he makes these men something to behold. After conquering Rosamund Pike’s heart in this film you can see him wearing shorts in the privacy of their home. Our horizontal stripes model Barney takes name of this character and you can find it in light blue or coral lines.
EWAN X BOXER UNION
Spanish northern coast brand Ewan has partnered with Boxer Union for launching a signature model in our last collection. The collaboration marks as Boxer Union´s first time partnering with a clothing brand. Founders of both companies met years ago, share the love for surfing and music and usually wear each other products. But collab started over a year ago with the idea of mixing two identities. We wanted to include their cool anchor logo in one of our new patterns and enjoy Ewan art director pictures with our boxer shorts.
The all over fabric was printed in Barcelona. Navy is the main colour because both brands identities but you can find a red anchor logo time to time on one of the panels of the garments. Boxers has been manufactured in Bulgaria as mostly all our product and you can get them in two colorways: white and navy. The collaboration is available at Ewan stores, selected independent dealers and online.
JOHN TURTURRO IS HERBIE
‘Quiz Show ‘ (1994) was Robert Redford fourth movie as director. Adapted from Richard Goodwin’s memoir ‘Remembering America: A Voice form the Sixties’, the film is based upon the NBC’s Twenty One quiz show scandal of the 1950s. The film chronicles the rise and fall of the popular contestant Charles Van Doren after the rigged loss of Herb Stempel and Congressional investigator Goodwin’s probe of game-fixing.
John Turturro is Herb Stempel, a Jewish working-class and the reigning champion of the TV show. However, both the network and the program’s corporate sponsor Geritol, find that Stempel’s approval ratings are beginning to level out, meaning the show would benefit from new talent. Charles Van Doren (Ralph Fiennes), a WASP bachelor who taught English at Columbia University and who came from a prominent literary family, electrified the nation by beating the reigning champ.
Turturro becomes the film’s most magnetic figure. The actor gained 25 pounds, cut his hair and blackened a front tooth to play Stempel. We really like his so 50s eyebrown glasses and his mixed of cheesy and cool look at home: white t-shirt, striped boxer shorts and printed robe. Our style Herbie takes inspiration from his shorts: blue and coral horizontal striped for our new collection.
OLIVER ISAAC IS LLEWYN
Coen Brothers, the most broad-terms successful American independent filmmakers of our time, made a tragicomic epic about a Greenwich village folk singer down on his luck, starring Oscar Isaac. The film premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix.
“Inside Llewyn Davis” follows a week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s. Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he is struggling to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles-some of them of his own making.
Davis was once part of a double-act whose album was poignantly entitled ‘If I Had Wings’. He is now a solo act, a career decision that also reveals a good deal about his prickly loneliness; his new album is entitled Inside Llewyn Davis, another title fraught with irony. Davis’ career runs parallel to Bod Dylan’s, except for the success part. Llewyn has more in common with the late Dave Van Ronk, a talent unblessed by fortune.
In a new ‘hipster’ era, Coen Brothers take us back to the origins of folk music. The score is pure pleasure; that’s when you learn what’s inside Llewyn Davis.
Time to time Davis takes advantage of Columbia professor friend generosity and stays the night at his home. Next morning he wander around the house wearing a tee and boxer shorts for having breakfast and check music library. Our style ‘Llewyn’ pays homage to all those tireless artists that follow their dream. Blue and red horizontal stripes are again this season one of our best-sellers.
JOHNNY DEEP IS JACK
Jack is Johnny Deep in 1985 ‘Private Resort’, the story of two adolescent friends who check-in at a posh Florida resort, planning to spend every hour in hot pursuit of gorgeous girls. Although it´s not a masterpiece at all, Deep knows what a smart guy should wear under his pants to look handsome.
Johnny Deep played his first starring role in 1985 adolescent-oriented comedy ‘Private Resort’. Jack and his friend Ben (Rob Morrow) spend a weekend at a posh Florida resort. Their only interest is chasing rich girls but fate has much more in store for them. The plot is further complicated when they try to flip with the wife of a conniving jewel thief, the Maestro. They will have to outsmart him, a nasty security guard and an obnoxius jock if they are ever going to get a moment alone with girls of their dreams.
Ok, we know the film is quite cheesy, but you can check that Deep knows what a smart guy should wear under his pants to look handsome.
The Jack is our new seersucker with small red square dots.
