    JON HAMM IS DON

    JON HAMM IS DON

One of the most famous cult television series for fashion lovers ended last sunday. Mad Men, a slang term coined in th 50’s by advertisers working in NYC Madison Avenue to refer to themselves, premiered on 2007 on the cable network AMC. Costume designer Janie Bryant is largely responsible for the success of the show.

Don Draper is the go-to creative man in the office. His clothing reflects the balance between the creative artist and the career man. The staple of Don Draper’s wardrobe is the classic American suit, popularized in the 1950s and 1960s by brands like Brooks Brothers: single-breasted, two-button jacket with notched collars and single-vented. He looks always sharp wearing key accesories like pocket squares, hats, tie bars or cuff links.

In this scene Don paints Anna’s living room in his underwear during a trip to California. Obviously Don wears classic boxer shorts. Our DON boxer style is an updated classic pinstripe fabric in two options, red & green.

Our aim is to transmit their passion for what they know, and out motivation is to learn.

    BOXER UNION PLAYLIST #11

    BOXER UNION PLAYLIST #11

The term Chanson Française is since 1945 a musical genre that is defined primarily by the utilization of the French language, with reference to masters and models inherited from the French-language literature and poetry, as differentiation with Anglo-Saxon dominant forms in the music industry of the mid XX century.

The 50’s was the time to go back to literary sources and to endow primacy to the lyrics and social engagement. Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Becaud, Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré and, above all, Serge Gainsbourg, are some of the most important singer-songwriters of that decade. In the sixties lot of new teenagers and idols took on the musical scene, coinciding with the first economic revolution in the music industry. It was a turning point: people had the same age as their idols. Some of these young artists were Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, Dalida, Eddy Mitchell, Claude Francois, Françoise Hardy, Jacques Dutronc, Christophe or France Gall.

We have tried to make a selection that intends to be a summary of some of the most French Chanson emblematic songs. From classics like Piaf, Brel or Aznavour to more innovative sounds such as Serge Gainsbourg, Nino Ferrer, Françoise Hardy or Joe Dassin. Listen our monthly playlist and feel yourself as if you were walking along the Seine enjoying la nuit parisienne.

    MATTHEW MODINE IS JOKER

    MATTHEW MODINE IS JOKER

Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Full Metal Jacket’ (1987) is arguably one the most influential of all Vietnam War movies, taking into account ‘Apocalyse Now’ (1979) and ‘Platoon’ (1986) too. It is based on the novel ‘The Short Timers’ by Gustav Hasford that had been in Vietnam as a Marine correspondent. Kubrick changed the title to “Full Metal Jacket,” inspired by the name of a kind of bullet commonly used by Marines in Vietnam.

This hyperreal movie is split in brutally into two parts: the film’s first half details the volunteers’ harrowing boot-camp training at Parris Island under the profane, power-saw guidance of drill instructor Sgt. Hartman. Part two takes place in Nam, as seen through the eyes of the now thoroughly indoctrinated marines. Ironically, it was filmed almost entirely in England.

The soundtrack counts with a fantastic selection of 1960s pop hits. Rolling Stones ‘Paint in Black’ is heard at the end of the movie. Same song would be used as the theme song for ‘Tour Of Duty’, a CBS show about the Vietnam War which ran from 1987-1989.

A movie full of well-known phrases, we definitely choose the words soldiers sing parading around in boxer shorts: ‘This is my rifle. This my gun. This is for fighting. This is for fun’. Our fill-a-fill light grey colour new model JOKER takes its name from the main character of the movie, played by Matthew Modine.
